# FAQ

## Launching

### How much does it cost to launch?

About 0.29 SOL, plus whatever you choose to spend on a dev buy or an airdrop. That figure is a measured cost model rather than a margin. See [Launch costs](/stonkfun-docs/launching/launch-costs.md).

### What market cap does my token open at?

Approximately `$5,000`, regardless of what you pair it against. The price is derived from the quote token's live USD price at the moment you are quoted.

"Approximately" because position boundaries have to sit on a tick grid. The exact figure is calculated per launch, and your token page shows the real number.

### Can I change the supply?

No. Every launch is 1,000,000,000 units at 9 decimals.

### Can I keep some supply for the team?

Only through a [dev buy](/stonkfun-docs/launching/dev-buy.md), which is capped at 2.5% and bought at market as the first trade, or [Airdrop mode](/stonkfun-docs/launching/airdrop-mode.md), which distributes supply to a recipient set rather than to you.

There is no vesting, no treasury allocation, and no reserve.

### Can I change the name, symbol or logo later?

No. Metadata is immutable and stored permanently on Arweave. Socials can be corrected by an admin.

### Can I rug my own token?

No. Both launch positions are locked through Raydium's Burn & Earn program. The position NFT is consumed and only the Fee Key remains, and a Fee Key can collect fees but cannot withdraw liquidity.

### What happens if my launch fails?

Nothing is lost. Either the bundle did not land and nothing was charged, or the launch is on chain and completes automatically. See [If a launch gets stuck](/stonkfun-docs/launching/recovery.md).

Never pay twice.

## Earning

### How do I claim my creator fees?

From your token page, or over the API in three calls. See [Creator fees](/stonkfun-docs/earning/creator-fees.md).

### Is there a deadline to claim?

No. Unclaimed fees sit safely on the position on-chain indefinitely.

### What if I lose the Fee Key NFT?

The liquidity is locked either way and cannot be lost, but the fee stream follows the NFT. Whoever holds it is who can claim.

### Why can't I claim on my reward coin?

Reward coins have no creator position at all. Holders earn instead, through the transfer tax, and you earn as a holder like everybody else. The API answers `403` with a reason.

### Why did I not receive a holder reward?

Most likely you hold less than `$20` of the token, or your share of that round's pot was below the payout minimum.

Nothing carries between rounds, since rewards go to whoever holds at the moment of distribution.

### What token are rewards paid in?

The quote token, meaning whatever the launch is paired against, not the launched token.

## Trading

### Why is there a tax on transfers of this token?

It is a reward coin. The transfer tax funds holder rewards, on every transfer, on any venue. The rate is 1% or 3%, chosen at launch and permanent.

### Why does my swap show 2% total fees?

A reward coin at the default rate is a 1% pool plus a 1% transfer tax. See [Fee models](/stonkfun-docs/core-concepts/fee-models.md).

### What does "graduated" mean?

The token has touched a `$40,000` market cap. It is a milestone rather than a venue change, since the token has traded on a real Raydium pool since block one, and it is permanent. See [Graduation](/stonkfun-docs/core-concepts/graduation.md).

### Why is this token paired with a stock instead of SOL?

That is the point of StonkFun. Your token's chart is denominated in the asset it was launched against. See [Quote tokens and pairs](/stonkfun-docs/core-concepts/quote-tokens.md).

### Where does the price data come from?

The chain. Pool state is read from Raydium directly, and volume comes from decoding every swap on every platform pool and reconciling it against that pool's vaults.

## The platform

### What is `$STONK`?

The platform's own token. About 60% of quote-token fee revenue is spent buying it on the open market and burning it. See [Platform revenue](/stonkfun-docs/earning/platform-revenue.md).

### What is the Ecosystem Flywheel?

It owns 10% of every reward launch's locked liquidity, and spends the fees that earns buying back and burning the platform's top 15 tokens by market cap, weighted by market cap. See [The Ecosystem Flywheel](/stonkfun-docs/earning/ecosystem-flywheel.md).

### Why is `$STONK` excluded from the flywheel?

It has its own buyback engine already, and it dwarfs every launched token by market cap. Including it would have turned the ecosystem flywheel into a second `$STONK` buyback.

### Can I use any token as a quote?

Any token that clears the [safety audit](/stonkfun-docs/core-concepts/quote-token-safety.md), which means coming through one of three doors and then passing the on-chain checks.

## The API

### Do I need an API key?

No. There is no key, no signup and no plan. A launch is authorised by your own signature on the fee payment. See [Authentication](/stonkfun-docs/developer-api/authentication.md).

### Is it safe to send `creatorWallet` to the claim prepare endpoint without proving I own it?

Yes. The returned transaction is only valid signed by the wallet holding that launch's Fee Key NFT, and it pays that wallet's own accounts. For a token you do not own, you get a transaction you cannot make valid.

### What are the rate limits?

300 per minute for everything except the two prepare endpoints, which are 25 and 20. All per IP, with no tiers. See [Rate limits](/stonkfun-docs/developer-api/rate-limits.md).

### Why does a parameter in the docs not work for me?

The feature behind it may not be currently available. Check `GET /stats`, which carries what is on, so your client can track the platform instead of hardcoding it.

### Can I generate a client?

Yes. `GET /api/public/v1/openapi.json` is an OpenAPI 3.1 document. See [OpenAPI spec](/stonkfun-docs/developer-api/openapi.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://stonkfun.gitbook.io/stonkfun-docs/resources/faq.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
