# Quote tokens and pairs

The quote token is what your launch trades against. It is the defining choice of a StonkFun launch, because your token's price chart is denominated in it.

## Categories

Quote tokens are grouped into categories so the picker is easier to navigate. The category is display only and has no effect on how a pool is created, priced or claimed.

| Category   | What it holds                          |
| ---------- | -------------------------------------- |
| xStocks    | Tokenized public equities              |
| PreStocks  | Tokenized pre-IPO companies            |
| Tessera    | Tessera-issued tokenized assets        |
| Sunrise    | Backpack-issued tokenized assets       |
| Currencies | Stablecoins and fiat-referenced tokens |
| Leverage   | Leveraged exposure tokens              |
| Solana     | Wrapped SOL                            |
| Custom     | Creator-imported mints                 |

The number beside each tab on the launch page is how many mints in that category are currently available to launch against.

## When a pair is withdrawn

A category or an individual mint can be taken out of circulation for new launches. When that happens, everything already launched against it is untouched: those pools keep being indexed and priced, their fees keep being claimed, and rewards, buybacks and burns keep running. The only change is that a creator can no longer pick it for a new launch.

This is enforced on the server as well as hidden in the interface, so a direct API call cannot get around it either.

A separate list covers mints that may never be used at all, such as impostor tokens and tokens whose backing is in doubt. Those are removed from the platform entirely rather than just retired.

## Getting onto the list

An admin can register a mint directly. A creator can also import one by pasting a mint address on the launch page, which puts it through the full [quote token safety audit](/stonkfun-docs/core-concepts/quote-token-safety.md).

## What is checked before you can use one

Before a quote token can back a launch, the platform verifies that the mint exists and that its token program and decimals match its record, that its features are ones Raydium's CLMM supports, that a live USD price can be read for it, and that it has not been retired or blocked.

## Pricing

Every quote token's USD price is refreshed continuously. When you request a launch quote, the price is signed into that quote, so the price you were shown is the price your launch executes at even if the market moves in between.

## Pairs over the API

```bash
curl 'https://www.stonkfun.xyz/api/public/v1/pairs?launchable=true'
```

| Query        | Meaning                            |
| ------------ | ---------------------------------- |
| `category`   | Filter by category                 |
| `launchable` | `true` excludes retired categories |

Call this first. The `quoteMint` you pass to `/launches/prepare` has to be one of these.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://stonkfun.gitbook.io/stonkfun-docs/core-concepts/quote-tokens.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
